Three layers of bamboo
Furniture interventions in Amsterdam (NL), work in progress

New bamboo furniture elements are placed on each floor with variations in detailing to create a family.
During the years, this house was altered step by step, making it noisy. The clients asked us for a calm and coherent design for all floors. The existing and loved bamboo cabinet and kitchen top on the ground floor were the starting point of the design proces. Here we stretched the bamboo to create a full length wall housing a wardrobe, toilet, kids nook, storage and reading nook. The wall is completely flush and all openings and handles are cut out.

The first floor is occupied by the three kids, all with their own bedroom with frameless, full height bamboo doors. They share a central place where we placed a ‘bed closet’.
A multifunctional object with loads of storage space and a bed on top. It's like the Big Bird's nest were they can chill and it also doubles as a guest bed for sleepovers. The rhythm of the cabinets are emphasised by vertical lines with integrated door handles.

On the top floor, we scaled down on the bamboo because of the existing floor. Clothing cabinets got a hazy white finish, matching the sheer curtains on the other side and is stretched over the full length of the wall. Bamboo appears in the bathroom niche and at the cut-out door handles. Halfway the cabinet has a tucked away bamboo desktop to make an home office at daytime.
