Between trees and sky
Apartment renovation in Rotterdam (NL)
The outdoor qualities as source of inspiration for the renovation of an apartment located in the center of Rotterdam.
The maisonette is situated on the third- and fourth floor in a typical 80's apartment block. The big quality comes from the direct surroundings as seen from the windows. On the third floor the living areas are situated, where the surrounding trees became the source of inspiration for the design of a wooden element that hosts the entrance and toilet. It organises the living space in three zones: cooking, eating and relaxing.
From the bedrooms on the fourth floor, you can overlook the cityscape of Rotterdam. Here you rise above the trees and that is why this floor is characterised by the sky and the clouds. The main elements are the blue floor, a light color scheme and the use of translucent polycarbonate. The bathroom in the center of this floor is materialised in shades of green which represent a horizon of fields. Sliding panels in the bathroom can be opened so you can literally bath in the sun.
