Going green, seeing yellow
House Renovation, Doorn (NL)

A sustainability upgrade with a green kitchen, a bakery corner and some yellow sweets.
Our clients wanted to give their 70’s home an upgrade for the next thirty years, starting by insulating all floors, walls and roof. This means we could now use low-temperature heating and made it heat pump ready. Better installation is installed and solar panels are installed on the roof to get the most out of this sustainability upgrade.

At the same time, the upgrade was the trigger to also renovate some parts of the inside. On the attic, we removed one of the walls to make a multi-functional space, mostly used as a playground and bedroom for their grandchildren. One wall was kept, to keep the home office as it was.

Going downstairs to the ground floor, the main entrance hall is improved with a bigger toilet and floor heating, which was also installed in the completely renovated kitchen. New bespoke furniture was made with a light counter top and green stained oak doors, inside the cabinets are in a soft taupe. A double layered plexiglass sliding door is installed between dining room and kitchen. White on the kitchen side and yellow on the dining side, referencing the original door color. The translucent panels let light through and show a intriguing blurry image of what is happening on the other side.

The pleasant weekly activity of making their own bread and pastries is now made possible in the kitchen at the window by installing a made-to-measure baker’s table. Complete with bookshelves, cooling shelves and foldable desktop come walkthrough to the garden.
